Shape of Perception
TL;DR
Shape of Perception is a robotic-arm engraving project that explores human cognition through mechanical processes. The project seeks to visualize cognitive spatial-perceptual data in physical form to understand the connection between the built environment and spatial attention. It invites reflection on how our perceptions shape—and are shaped by—the environments we inhabit.
Research Framework: Spatial Attention

Process Setup

Target Analysis: Ronchamp Chapel
Le Corbusier’s architectural promenade emphasizes the fluid, sequential experience of moving through space, where design elements engage and guide the observer. Materializing gaze data makes that experience physically legible.

Collected Data: Gaze Path & Heat Path

Processed Data: Final Toolpath

Robot Arm: Kinematics

Testing: Foam Cube Cutting

Final Design: Foam Cut Cubes
